Books I ordered have arrived!

But, I have to wait till tonight when I get home before I can see them. I ordered some books a while back and my wife called me a short while ago to inform me that my books have arrived.

It makes me feel like a little boy waiting for Christmas to come. I can’t wait, and Christmas comes at 17:30 today!

Books I ordered to arrive soon

23 September 2010 Leave a comment

I am somewhat of a book “junky.” Whenever we walk past a book store, my wife tries to distract me from entering. I find it very difficult to simply cruise past a book store. Hence, I buy a fair amount of books s far as the budget allows.

However, I do have a problem! I am not a fast reader and tend to dwell on books, and so I have an unread pile of books that grows faster than I can read them. How I wish I could read as fast and as much as Dr. Al Mohler and Tim Challies.

Of course, after having seen Dr. Mohler’s study, any other study just seems to be so lame, especially mine!

Anyway, I have recently purchased some more books from Kalahari, and they should arrive by Monday. They are:

Doing church our way because God’s way is just too restrictive!

Kidults: Adults that fail to grow up

“Failure to launch.”

That is the phrase used these days for adults, or rather kidults that fail to grow up into mature adults. The issue of “Failing to launch” is reaching major proportions and will still be discussed for a long time!

Dr. Al Mohler writes,

“The reason for this [discussion] becomes clear once you read the essay. Henig lets her readers understand the scale of the issue — we are not talking about a passing phenomenon that is linked to the economic recession. We are talking about a major change in the way young people move toward adulthood . . . if they are moving toward adulthood.”

Many years ago children dreamt of growing up and becoming responsible with jobs and families. Today kidults dream of eternal childhood and never reach the 5 milestones at age 30 by which adult status is measured:

  1. Completing school,
  2. Leaving home,
  3. Getting married,
  4. Having children, and
  5. Financial independence.

Dr. Mohler continues,

“The attention now given to ’emerging adulthood’ parallels the rise of adolescence early in the twentieth century. Sociologists, psychologists, educators, and a host of others began to argue for the recognition of adolescence as a distinct and essential life stage. This led to a host of legal, educational, and cultural accommodations. Now, the same recognition is urged for ’emerging adulthood.'”

Of course, the idea of adolescence (teenagers) is a modern phenomenon. What it really means is that adulthood is delayed.

Dr. Mohler urges Christians to look at this issue with great concern! Read the rest of Dr. Mohler’s commentary here. Dr. Mohler’s updates are also available via Twitter.

The regression of the modern gospel in pictures

I know that the images above are usually used for another story, but when someone at work emailed them to me, it made me think of the state of the preaching of the gospel in the modern church.

It is amazing how the gospel has been emasculated from the truth of God’s wrath on sinners and the resultant death of Christ as a propitiation towards God for sinners to “God has a wonderful plan for your life!” or “You are not as bad as those fundamentalists say you are!” or “It doesn’t matter how you live or what you believe, as long as you are sincere!”

When the gospel is truncated here and there to make it easier for people to accept it as in the picture above, the day will come that those that believed they are in Christ will come to the end of their days and discover that the gospel they believed literally falls short of the true gospel of God in Christ. It is only the full gospel that brings salvation. Any other gospel brings damnation!

The gospel in essence is an offence to the world! It goes against everything that the world believes. By making the gospel palatable to the world with the “good” notion of getting them to believe, they will not be saved, but be condemned by the very “palatable” gospel to a life without God!

Benny Hinn teaching
his false doctrine

As Paul writes in Galatians 1:6-10:

“[E]ven if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.”

It is for this reason that we have to remain vigilant against all kinds of false teaching and heresy. We cannot allow false teachers to create a false confidence in people to believe that they are indeed saved. The whole gospel must be preached!

What we are saved by is what we are saved to! If I am “saved” by a false gospel, then I am damned to live by that false gospel. But, if I am saved by the true gospel, it will save me to serve the living God in Christ.

Let us rise and stand for the gospel of Christ.
